"You can't do that, Euphemia." For the first sixteen years of Effy Sinclair's life, her overbearing parents ensured their long awaited daughter was protected from head to toe against the big, bad world. The result of several long years of unsuccessful conception and three expensive rounds of IVF, Euphemia was seen as a miracle by Norma and Harry Sinclair. Though her birth was a happy one, they quickly discovered a hole in Effy's heart which would kickstart a lifetime of fretting and anxiousness and the automatic response of "no" whenever their daughter tried to step outside the box. She was a sickly and underdeveloped baby for her first year while her parents tried desperately to ensure she reached the weight that would qualify her for surgery, and though doctors assured them she would live a perfectly normal life once her heart had been repaired Norma and Harry continued to worry over everything from the mundane to the extreme.
A job promotion moved the family of three from Cork to London when Effy was ten, where a recent diagnosis of Attention Decifict Hyperactivity Disorder found her parents searching for new ideas and activities to keep their rowdy daughter out of trouble. Effy wasn't a naughty child by nature, but her constant distracted nature and lack of brain to mouth filter was a permanent headache for her exhausted parents. Drama classes seemed to be the outlet that Effy craved, a place where her creative and rampant imagination could be challenged and stretched and her mother sobbed the first time she saw her daughter stand still for ten entire minutes while she played the part of a tree during an end of term play. Her future, it seemed, was sealed in that moment. Though her parents didn't yet realise it, Effy's acting roots had started to grow.
A close friendship with her high school drama teacher led to her first television role, a tiny part in a largely unknown series called New Street Law. Though her parents protested her involvement in paid acting work at first, Effy demonstrated perhaps her very first act of teenage defiance by telling them she would be seeking acting jobs with or without their permission. Her next role was a huge step up, a small part in the Oscar nominated movie Atonment, and it was this first significant experience that set Effy's mind and made her sure of what she wanted from her future. Though she'd spent hours fantasising about becoming a home shopping television presenter or a weather girl, it was this - crafting characters with substance, immersing herself in different worlds and making something that held value beyond simple entertainment - that she would dedicate her life to.
Effy was eighteen when she graduated high school with mediocre grades, her academics largely neglected in favour of her career. Her parents continued to be unhappy with her decision and protest her involvement with the movie industry, but with two more movies under her belt and the promise of more in her future Effy was willing to go against their advice and take the risk in something she'd proven she could be good at. It wouldn't be until 2011's Martha Marcy May Marlene that she garnered significant interest, her portrayal of a haunted young woman resonating with audiences on an international level, and she has continued to win supporting roles in box office successes as well as larger roles in more quietly successful films. Though her confidence in herself remains to be on shaky ground, the one thing Effy never doubts is her ability to sell a movie.

• Took a break between March 2014 and February 2015 to give birth to her son, Alfred James Price, in September 2014, an event which purposefully went largely unreported by the media. On her publicist's advice, Effy spoke publicly about the pregnancy very little and almost never mentions her son in interviews.
• Diagnosed with childhood ADHD, nowadays Effy is unmedicated but still has problems with being forgetful and having an exceptionally short attention span. She tends to learn her scripts in bursts, often the night before she films.
• Still has a soft Irish lilt to her natural speaking voice despite moving to England at the age of ten.
• Stands at an impressive five feet nine inches though is far from graceful and is renowned in her family for breaking a new dish every week.
• More coming!
